Vice President Mike Pence will speak at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at a “Make America Great Again! Victory Rally” at Lakeland Linder International Airport, the Trump for President campaign announced.
Rally goers will be admitted between 1:30 and 3 p.m. Tickets are first-come, first-served, and are available online. Those registering must verify their tickets by responding to a text message, and two tickets are available per phone number.
The reservation page does not mention specific coronavirus precautions but includes a disclaimer that “an inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present.”
Pence will be joined onstage by two area Republican candidates who are running for open seats:
- Lakeland City Commissioner Scott Franklin, who is running for U.S. House District 15 against Democrat Alan Cohn of Tampa.
- Danny Burgess of Zephyrhills, who is running to represent Florida Senate District 20, which includes portions of northwest Polk, against Democrat Kathy Lewis of Wesley Chapel.
Polk Republican Chairman J.C. Martin of Winter Haven has been invited to lead the Pledge of Allegiance and Ed Shoemaker of Lakeland, state Republican committeeman for Polk, will deliver the invocation, The Ledger reported.
After his Lakeland appearance, Pence will fly to Tallahassee for a 6:30 rally.
