The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will continue several roadway construction projects this week, impacting travel through Friday, April 3.
Much of the construction will take place overnight. Expect lane closures, ramp closures, and reduced speeds in certain areas. FDOT urges drivers to use caution, be aware of surroundings in construction zones, and plan for additional travel time.
Interstate 4 at State Road 33 (Exit 38)
- Tuesday, March 31, and Wednesday, April 1, beginning at 2 a.m., expect reduced speeds, temporary delays, and intermittent slow-moving traffic.
- For the duration of the project, expect lane closures, lane shifts, construction crews, and construction equipment in the area.
This project will improve the existing interchange and add wildlife crossings.
Most lane closures will occur during the nighttime/overnight hours.
This week, crews will be clearing vegetation, installing barrier and noise walls, paving operations for on-off ramps, painting pavement markings, completing drainage and utility work.
I-4 at CSX railroad bridge (Exit 31)
- Monday, March 30, through Friday, April 3, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Westbound I-4 on-ramp will be closed at Kathleen Road (Exit 31).
This project includes demolishing the existing 250-foot CSX railroad bridge, approximately 1200 feet west of Kathleen Road, and replacing it with two parallel 400-foot bridges.
I-4 from Galloway Road to U.S. Highway 98
- Sunday, March 29, through Thursday, April 2, expect overnight single lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. and double lane closures from 9:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
- Tuesday, March 31, nighttime ramp closure possible at the U.S. 98 westbound on-ramp.
This project includes resurfacing and other improvements along I-4.
Ramp closures and I-4 lane closures will not occur on the same nights.
U.S. 98 from South of Griffin Road to Sharon Drive
- Throughout the project, expect both north and southbound nighttime/overnight lane closures.
- Some daytime lane closures will occur north of I-4.
This project includes resurfacing, repairing and improving drainage, improvements at Pyramid Parkway, with emphasis on crosswalks, enhanced lighting, upgraded signal equipment, new northbound signs identifying the I-4 ramps, and painted bike lanes for emphasis.
State Road 572 from Airport Road to Pipkin Creek Road and roundabout at Waring Road
- This week, expect construction crews on both sides of Drane Field Road and construction vehicles entering and exiting the roadway.
- Throughout construction, expect lane closures and lane shifts.
This project includes resurfacing and lane widening on S.R. 572 and a new roundabout at Waring Road.
S.R. 33 (Lakeland Hills Boulevard) from Parkview Place to Griffin Road
- This week, watch for side street closures along the east side of Lakeland Hills Boulevard.
This project includes roadway reconstruction, resurfacing, placing curb and gutter, installing a new drainage system, widening sidewalk, upgrading signals and lighting, and upgrading water and sewer lines for the city of Lakeland.
Throughout the project, traffic will remain in one lane in each direction, and the speed limit is reduced to 35 mph.
