BayCare Health System is making a bigger move into Lakeland by opening an urgent-care clinic at Southgate Shopping Center.

It’s in the outparcel just south of Five Guys.

The Clearwater-based health-care company operates 15 hospitals in Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco and Polk Counties, including Bartow Regional Medical Center and Winter Haven Hospital.

Until now, its main presence in Lakeland was through wellness stations at Publix stores, St. Jospeh’s Children’s Specialty Center on Lakeland Hills Boulevard and a small primary-care practice near Christina.

The urgent-care clinic treats medical conditions without prior appointment including minor illnesses and injuries, flu and colds, sprains and strains, minor cuts, stings and burns. It also offers X-rays, lab tests and EKGs.

Other services include school and sports physicals and occupational health services including post-hire physicals, drug screenings, treatment of workplace injuries and vaccinations.

Hours are Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Patients can reserve a spot online.
