The SpringHill Suites hotel being built next to the RP Funding Center should open by mid-April next year, according to an announcement that construction of the steel frame has been completed.

The 126-room hotel, a Marriott nameplate, broke ground on October 1, 2018, in an area that was formerly a parking lot near the convention center’s east entrance.

It is being developed by Lakeland Hospitality Group, managed by Winter Haven developer Wesley Barnett.

The city sold the property to the developer in May 2018 for $400,000 as part of its efforts to draw more convention business to the RP Funding Center. Located just south of the 127-room Hyatt Place, the new hotel will double the on-site housing capacity for conventions.

Plans for the SpringSuites hotel include “4,000 square-feet of meeting space, a full-service bar and lounge with tapas-style light bites, outdoor pool and patio with fire pit, and 24-hour fitness room,” according to a news release.

Companies involved with the project include:

  • Tomlinson Construction, Lakeland- development manager
  • Rodda Construction, Lakeland – general contractor
  • McKibbon Places, Atlanta – development consultant
  • McKibbon Hospitality, Tampa – hotel manager
The steel structure has been completed at the SpringHill Suites in Lakeland.
