LakelandMom.com and the Lakes Education/Action Drive Cardboard Boat Challenge received Cygnet Awards from Lakeland Vision at this morning’s City Commission meeting.
The award is given to “organizations and individuals that strive to achieve our strategic goals in order to impact our community in positive and significant ways,” Lakeland Vision Director Laura Rodriguez said.
LakelandMom.com was founded by April Mucci in 2015 to provide news and information useful to local parents. When presenting the award, Lakeland Vision board member Jennifer Kincart Jonsson said the site has been indispensable to her as a mother of young children.
The cardboard boat race was founded 14 years ago to raise funds for lakes education and has evolved into a lakes festival. This year’s race is Saturday.
This is the first year of the Cygnet Award. The first award was given in February to the Rotary Clubs of Lakeland for the concert series that raised $300,000 for a new playground at Lake Parker Park.
Winners receive a crystal memento.
Lakeland Vision, a non-profit organization, works with community leaders to implement a vision document charting a course for Lakeland’s future based on community input.
Here is the presentation given at this morning’s meeting explaining why the two organizations were chosen.
