Honoring military veterans

Trinity Laurino

Executive Director

Tomorrow is Veteran’s Day, and let me say thank you to all who have served. In honor of the day, we’ve compiled some of the articles from this year featuring Polk County veterans:

The holiday also means a three-day weekend for many. For our small-but-mighty newsroom, it’s a much needed and appreciated break — especially after Tuesday’s long night of city election results coverage. (Did you vote in the city elections? Why or Why not? Tell us in this quick survey)

So this Friday, in observance of Veteran’s Day, we are going to do our best to take the day off and won’t be publishing any new articles. I say it this way because taking time off is one of the few things LkldNow’s staff tends to not do enough. But even we think it’s important to disconnect from the news every once in a while.

This means we won’t have a reporter photographing the Veterans Day ceremony and parade on Saturday, but if you are going and want to share your photos, we’ll happily curate a gallery. You can tag @LkldNow on Facebook or Instagram or email your photos to newstips@lkldnow.com.

Be well, be safe, have a wonderful weekend, and we’ll be back on the beat as usual on Monday.

Lots of curious shoppers turned out this morning for the grand opening of the rebuilt-from-the-ground-up Publix at Oakbridge Centre on Harden Boulevard. There were few open parking spaces in the lot for the new 54,964-square-foot store. The previous Publix store on the site, built in 1988, was closed 14 months ago and demolished to make way for the new market. | Barry Friedman, LkldNow
