Regular shoppers at the Lakeland Winn-Dixie, 6600 North Socrum Loop, can expect the store to close mid-April to convert to an ALDI store. Managers at the store declined to comment on the conversion.
Winn-Dixie and ALDI are working together to ensure a smooth transition, according to Meredith Hurley, senior director of communications and community for The Winn-Dixie Company.
Matt Thon, regional vice president at ALDI, wrote in an email that the conversion has already begun. Once the transition is complete, “Customers can expect a quick, easy shopping experience,” he wrote.
“Our smaller stores are stocked with only the items customers need so they can get in and out, and our award-winning exclusive brands help shoppers save without sacrificing quality,” Thon wrote. “Shoppers will also discover weekly offerings of limited-time ALDI Finds like seasonal food, home goods and more.”
Winn Dixie to Harvey’s and back again
The Winn-Dixie Company is also converting the Lakeland Harveys Supermarkets at 1305 Ariana St. and 2630 U.S. Highway 92 to Winn-Dixie stores, as part of a brand transformation that includes five more stores.
The stores will reflect Winn-Dixie’s new look, and will carry “Own Brand products, prepared foods and the grocer’s signature Lip Lickin’ Chicken in the deli,” the company said in a statement. Customers can transfer their existing Harveys Rewards points to the Winn-Dixie Rewards app.

The staff at the Harveys at U.S. 92 and Combee Road said they don’t know exactly when the changeover will happen. But renovations have been happening every night after the store closes. Recent changes include wood laminate floors in the produce department and shelves stocked with Winn-Dixie signature Chek sodas.
Hurley said Winn-Dixie operates 130 grocery stores across Florida and southern Georgia. The transitions are part of a “renewed focus on long-term growth and delivering the quality, service and value that have defined Winn-Dixie for more than a century.”
