A 48-year-old Lakeland woman died after she was hit by a semi-trailer at New Tampa Highway and Airport Road just before midnight Thursday, the Lakeland Police Department reported.

The driver stopped to see what he had hit, but continued to his destination three minutes away because he didn’t realize he had hit a person, police said.

The victim was identified as Tina H. Marshall. Police found the truck driver, 57-year-old Ferdinand Senatus of Lakeland, at Plastipak Packaging Inc., 7105 New Tampa Highway, where he was making his delivery 1.8 miles from the accident scene.

“Senatus was interviewed and released from the scene pending further investigation,” an LPD news release said. “No charges have been filed at this time.”

The accident closed the road for about four hours.
