West Pipkin Road will be widened between South Florida Avenue and Medulla Road to meet the demands of growth in southwest Lakeland, The Ledger reports. The work by Hubbard Construction of Winter Park starts next month and is expected to take around two years. The cost to Polk County: $42 million, with $6 million coming from the city of Lakeland.

While the widening of the road definitely will help with the flow of traffic my real concern is the bus stop where my daughter and other kids catch the bus to McKeel Technology at the corner of Pipkin and Dorman. This is already a horrible spot and I have called about the narrowness, overhanging trees, and a busy street for kids to be standing and waiting for a bus to come is NOT SAFE. If the bus stop can be moved (which I am told it cannot after speaking with Transportation of McKeel Technology) then yes, I would be in agreement. If the bus stop cannot be moved then no, I am against it.
