Incumbent Lisa Miller has been elected without opposition to serve a third term on the Polk County School Board representing District 7.
The Polk County native said she is “honored to go back to work.” Miller added, “I’m shocked I still get to do it. It never becomes stagnant.”
This will be Miller’s final term. A Florida law passed in 2023 limits school board members to two terms or eight years from the law’s passing. Miller’s first term started before the law went into effect, making her eligible to run this cycle.
Miller raised $8,045 for her campaign. “I am especially grateful that 100% of my campaign support has come from the people of Polk County, reflecting the trust and confidence of the community I am proud to serve,” said Miller
The campaign has spent $4,348.29. Miller says she plans to return the remaining funds to the donors or donate to a nonprofit at the donor’s discretion.
After her initial election in 2018, Miller faced a contentious reelection campaign in 2022 which went to a run-off vote and resulted in one opposing candidate’s campaign manager pleading guilty to seven first-degree misdemeanors for violating text message disclosure requirements.
Formerly a community partnership manager for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Tampa Bay, Miller is currently employed as the district development manager for Junior Achievement of Polk County. She holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from the University of South Florida and a Master of Public Administration from Barry University.
