A single-engine airplane crashed in an industrial park just east of a Lakeland Linder Airport runway on Saturday afternoon; both men in the plane sustained serious injuries, according to Lakeland police, and were airlifted to Tampa General Hospital for treatment.

The crash occurred just before 2:30 p.m. at 4150 S. Pipkin Road, police said. Nobody on the ground was injured.

The plane appears to have hit a trailer and a chain-link fence before skidding on a paved surface into a gate near parked trucks, according to Bay News 9.

A crash investigation will be overseen by the Federal Aviation Authority and the National Transportation Safety Board, police said.

Identities of the aircraft’s occupants have not been released.
