POLK GARBAGE: Residents of unincorporated Polk whose garbage is collected by the county are getting a new provider and a higher bill. A County Commission vote raised annual bills from $153.80 to $188.50 per household and replaced Republic Services with two companies. (FCC Environmental Services with offices in Orlando will serve west Polk.)

HABITAT: A Publix Super Market Charities donation of $5.5 million to faith-based Habitat for Humanity will build 60 new houses, including one in Lakeland.

LAKE GIBSON HIGH: The undefeated Braves will have a perfect football season if they beat Carol City in the state 6A championship in Orlando on Saturday.
