SOLAR: An organization called Florida Solar is trying to establish a solar power cooperative in Polk County that would make it easier for residents to get good deals on home solar installations. Solar advocates addressing the League of Women Voters on Wednesday urged supporters to lobby the city of Lakeland to remove its solar demand charge since that removes some of the financial benefits of a solar installation.

TEACHER: Polk’s Teacher of the Year is Michelle Dinwiddie, who urges her 10th-grade language arts students at Lake Gibson High School to display good character through “a tucked-in shirt, a kind word, a diligent heart and a capable attitude.”
