- GROWTH: The Lakeland-Winter Haven metro area had the second highest rate of population growth in the U.S. from July 2019 to 2020. At 2.7%, that’s a tie with Boise, Idaho, and second only to the 3% rate of Austin, Texas, based on a New York Times analysis of new U.S. Census data.
- BODY CAMS: As Lakeland’s police department considers adopting body cameras, The Ledger surveyed a few Florida police agencies who use them about their costs. Their conclusions: LPD cost estimates are “possible” for the cameras, low for the needed docking bays and high for data storage. A companion article discusses effectiveness at other agencies.
