- POLK EMS AND FIRE employees have worked an average of 449 hours of overtime during the last year, leaving them exhausted amid worker shortages, union leaders say. A county spokeswoman said 74% of the overtime hours were voluntary.
- LAKELAND ELECTRIC workers being laid off as part of the shuttering of the McIntosh 3 plant no longer have to sign a separation agreement. Union officials, who said the agreement would have deprived workers of their rights, still are dissatisfied because the city issued no apology.
