• COVID-19 has been confirmed in at least one worker at 15 Publix stores in Polk County, including seven in Lakeland: Oakbridge, Lake Miriam, The Highlands, Town and Country Square, Highland City, Grove Park and Plantation. Cases were confirmed, but not in the last 14 days, at Southgate and Lake Gibson.
  • SUBDIVISION: Over the objection of neighbors who want to retain the rural nature of their land west of Lakeland, Polk County commissioners approved land-use changes that will allow the development of 170 homes on a 79-acre former dairy farm west of Walker Road and north of Swindell Road.
  • POLICE NEWS: A body found in woods near Tigertown was identified as Ricky Kimball, 65, of Lakeland, who had been reported missing from his job at a convenience store (More: News Channel 8) | Phyllis Bell, 41, of Lakeland, died when the car she was in went off the road and crashed into a fence post and tree west of Mulberry; the driver, her 17-year-old son, broke both his legs.
