ART: City Commissioner Stephanie Madden is pushing to increase public art in Lakeland through a city resolution passed in 2006. The measure pledges 1% of construction costs for municipal facilities to a fund for public art, but it was swept under by the recession of the next few years. Commissioners and their staff will discuss it at an upcoming policy workshop.

LRH: Lakeland Regional Health is losing $2.9 million in Medicare reimbursements over the next year in a penalty for an excessive number of readmissions. Hospital administrators attribute socioeconomics of its patient base to its above-average readmission rate. But a USF health policy expert suggests the hospital is “playing roullette with patients” by deciding whether to accept penalties for readmission or reduced payments for keeping them hospitalized.
