RETIRING: “Pastor Mike” Louden led his final service at First Presbyterian Church of Lakeland Sunday before retiring this week after 47 years behind the pulpit. ALSO: Video from Sunday’s service
SWANS: After conducting their yearly medical exams, veterinarian Patricia Mattson said Lakeland’s swans “overall … looked good.” A few of the older mute swans had lost weight because stronger birds are getting to food sources faster.
MVP: Lakeland native Steve Pearce was named World Series Most Valuable Player Sunday after the Boston Red Sox clinched the series. Fellow Lakelander Chris Sale pitched a perfect final inning to seal the 5-1 win against the Dodgers and the 4-1 series title. (Speaking of his non-customary role as a reliever, Sale told MLB.com, “I got to throw the last pitch in the World Series, so I can’t complain.”)
