OPIOIDS: Lakeland drug distribution centers operated by Cardinal Health and McKesson Corp. were among the targets in a lawsuit filed by the state of Florida Tuesday against nine companies that make or distribute opioids. The state blames the companies for expanding the opioid crisis and seeks funds to help pay for its consequences.

LOGISTICS JOBS?: Polk County and the city of Lakeland are offering incentives to attract an unnamed company that is considering building a logistics center on County Line Road employing 160 people with an average salary of $46k per year. County commissioners were told Lakeland is competing with another city for the facility before they voted Tuesday to offer the company $128k in incentives.

UNITED WAY: Michael Tamney of Lakeland was named Citizen of the Year and Tax Collector Joe Tedder was named George W. Jenkins Volunteer of the Year Tuesday as the United Way of Central Florida announced it raised a record $9,371,971 in 2017.
