Two Lakeland women — Teresa V. Martinez and Cindy Hartley Ross — have been elected chair and vice chair respectively of the Polk State College Board of Trustees for the 2019 academic year.

Martinez succeeds previous chair Dan Dorrell of Lakeland. Other board members include Ashley Bell Barnett, Greg Littleton, and Mark Turner.

Martinez has been on the board since 2009 and has served as chair twice before. She was previously named a distinguished alumnus of the college.

Ross, a Lakeland native, has served on the board for 15 years and has also been named a distinguished alumnus.

Members of the board are appointed by the governor and serve without pay.
