The rate of deaths from COVID-19 in Polk County peaked in July at an average of 5.7 per day, and the rate was nearly as high for the first 10 days of August, according to data from the Medical Examiner’s Office for the Tenth Judicial Circuit, The Ledger reported. Medical Examiner’s Office data offers a more precise look at the dates of death than the information released by the Florida Department of Health.
