Distributing Lkld news widely for free

Trinity Laurino

Executive Director

LkldNow today launched our channel on Apple News. This means iPhone and Mac users have yet another way to read LkldNow’s local news reporting. This has been in the works for a long time and huge thanks to Barry Friedman, our founder and editor-at-large, for spearheading the launch.

Similarly, people who use Microsoft products can get our news on Microsoft Start, and links to our articles can be found on Google News.

We’re able to do this because as a nonprofit, part of our mission is to make the news as accessible as possible – which means publishing across multiple platforms to meet our readers where they are. In fact, I created this nifty graphic for our board of directors to map the many places our small team disseminates the news:

This publishing strategy upends the traditional business model for print news which would put up paywalls and require subscription fees in order to access the reporting. But we think everyone should have access to local news about their community.

Instead, it’s the support given by readers like you that makes this possible. If you value the news and information you find here and want to support our mission, please consider becoming a supporting member with a recurring monthly donation. $10 a month can do a surprising amount of good.
