Lakeland police tonight apprehended a 25-year-old man who escaped from a patrol car this morning after he was arrested and charged with burglary, police spokeswoman Robin Tillet said. The search for Brandon James Beverly started late morning and focused  on the Dixieland and Lake Morton Neighborhoods.

There’s no official word yet on where and how he was apprehended.  A Dixieland resident posted on Facebook that she saw the capture shortly after 9 p.m. and that he had been hiding near the corner of New York Avenue and Lenox Street.

The morning arrest took place on Patterson Street near Dixieland Village. Police chief Ruben Garcia told The Ledger Beverly struggled with Officer Sam Sostre before being placed in a patrol car;  then he escaped while handcuffed and ran down Patterson Street. An internal investigation will be launched to determine how Beverly escaped, Garcia said.

Several residents of the South Lake Morton neighborhood said in a neighborhood Facebook group that they had seen Beverly on private property early this morning and others said they captured his image on surveillance cameras.
