Some out-of-the-ordinary performances in Lakeland this week:

  • Opera comes to Florida Southern Saturday as Mark Thomsen directs Gilbert and Sullivan’s “The Gondoliers.”
  • I don’t know much about Gurf Morlix (videos) except that he has an odd name, he’s produced and played on some of Americana’s finest, I’ve heard Lucinda utter his name, and he’s playing an Among Friends Music house concert Sunday night.
  • The Munn Park Saints return to their namesake park at lunchtime Monday as a trio. Violinist Christine Collister has  joined the group, formerly a guitar-mandolin duo. (Hey, Christine, if you’re playing folk/acoustic music instead of classical, do you become a fiddler?)
