After hearing a report from their police chief today on why marijuana decriminalization is a bad idea, Lakeland city commissioners this morning decided to hold a public workshop to hear from all sides.

A date and place has not been set, but City Manager Tony Delgado said it would probably be held after work hours so that more people can attend.

The commission split 4-3 in deciding to proceed by setting a public meeting. Voting to proceed were Commissioners Jim Malless, Bill Read, Don Selvage and Justin Troller. Voting against were Mayor Howard Wiggs and Commissioners Phillip Walker and Edie Yates, who all took positions against decriminalization.
