Polk County deputies discovered the body of Sean Michael Krause, 60, on Tuesday, Sept. 22, in Colt Creek State Park, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Krause, a Lakeland resident, was the suspect in a digital voyeurism investigation at the Polk County Tax Collector’s Office after employees discovered on Monday, Sept. 21, that a hidden camera had been placed in the women’s restroom.
Further investigation led detectives to discover an SD card, which revealed Krause, an IT manager at the Tax Collector’s Office, had placed the camera inside a disposable toilet seat holder box and recorded at least three women without their knowledge.
The device was discovered in a restroom in an employee-only building. All the other bathrooms in the building were subsequently searched, and no other devices were found.
Deputies attempted to question Krause at his Lakeland home, but a witness said he had left after confessing to secretly recording employees.
Krause’s vehicle, as well as a detailed suicide note, were found early Monday night before his body was located nearby on Tuesday morning.
Deputies prepared to charge Krause with multiple counts of digital (video) voyeurism, but he died before charges could be filed.
