A consumer tip comes via a Lakeland Water Utilities customer who discovered he was paying a $35.15 monthly base rate instead of $13.13 because his house had a larger-than-standard meter: Check your water bill; understand what you are being charged for.

That story is totally erroneous. The fact that the resident lives on a 4-acre lot found its way on the editing floor. The previous home-owner requested the 1″ water meter because of the expansive irrigation system on the 4-acre lot. A 1″ water meter pumps about three times the amount of water which the original homeowner said they needed in order to push the irrigation system.
