Two Lakeland Police officers were honored today at the Polk County Law Enforcement Memorial during an annual Brotherhood bike ride for fallen first responders.
Thirty-six bicycle riders –- firefighters, police and EMS — along with support staff stopped at the memorial located in Lakeland Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday morning to remember LPD officers Kenneth Foley and Paul Dunn.
Foley, 57, was a 29-year veteran of the department when he was found unresponsive in his patrol car Dec. 4, 2019. Dunn, 50, a 6-year veteran of LPD and 12-year veteran of the Polk County Sheriff’s office, was killed in an early morning motorcycle crash Jan. 9, 2020. Both officers served in the U.S. Marines Corps.
This year’s Brotherhood Ride honors 25 fallen first responders during a 7-day, 500-mile ride through Florida. It started in Fort Myers on Thursday and ends in Live Oak next Wednesday.
