The Lakeland Police Department, Polk County Sheriff’s Office and Polk County Public Schools are teaming up to introduce high school students to various building trades.

The Summer Trades Camp brings in industry professionals to teach skills needed in vocational job markets.

One hundred students in two locations will have free, hands-on sessions to learn about:

  • Architecture
  • Carpentry
  • Drywall/painting
  • Electrical
  • Plumbing
  • Roofing

All materials and safety equipment are provided. Students must be in or entering high school.

There are two camp locations:

  • IES Residential Florida Education Center, 5859 U.S. Hwy 98 North in Lakeland
  • Ridge Technical College, 7700 State Road 544 in Winter Haven
