Student singers from three Lakeland-area schools will share the stage Tuesday night for a concert that uses choral music to explore American history, from Native American cultures and the world wars to the country’s continuing pursuit of equality.
Harrison School for the Arts will host choirs from Lawton Chiles Middle Academy and Rochelle School of the Arts for its Choral Invitational Concert, part of Harrison’s 2026-27 performance series.
For Harrison’s singers, the program is built around the current celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States, with different ensembles examining distinct periods and traditions in the nation’s history.
The Bass Chorus will perform music connected to the Lakȟóta, Cherokee and Chickasaw peoples, while the Treble Chorus will focus on experiences surrounding World War I and World War II.
The Harrison Chamber Singers will explore the nation’s journey toward equality through hymns, spirituals and gospel music. Choirs from Lawton Chiles and Rochelle will also perform during the evening.
“This concert is a wonderful reflection of what makes the arts so powerful—we bring young people together to learn, create and share their voices,” Harrison Principal Gian Carlo Moncelli said in a statement.
Moncelli said students have worked extensively to prepare for the concert and that bringing the three schools together offers another purpose: using music to understand history, consider different perspectives and find connections across the community.
