On Thursday evening, April 16, Maria Cruz, Talbot House executive director, emailed the following statement to news outlets announcing its withdrawal from the hearing scheduled for Monday, April 20:
Lakeland, FL — Talbot House Ministries announces that it has formally withdrawn from the De Novo hearing process related to its proposed relocation.
This decision reflects a strategic pause as the organization evaluates next steps with clarity and intentionality. Talbot House remains steadfast in its mission to serve individuals and families experiencing homelessness through comprehensive, compassionate, and evidence-based programs.
“For more than four decades, Talbot House Ministries has stood as a pillar of support in our community,” said Maria Cruz, Executive Director. “This moment allows us to refocus, strengthen our foundation, and continue advancing solutions that create lasting impact.”
The organization will continue operating all programs and services without interruption, including emergency overnight housing, case management, prevention and diversion, veterans housing, affordable housing, transitional housing for women and children, day services for the homeless, free healthcare services through the Good Samaritan Clinic, and employment and housing support initiatives.
Talbot House Ministries remains deeply committed to collaboration with community partners, local leaders, and supporters as it explores future opportunities to expand and enhance services in alignment with community needs.
