Stella A. Madden Wass, 91, died Saturday, September 11, 2021 in Lakeland, Florida. Born June 11, 1930 in East Liverpool, Ohio, she was the eldest daughter of the late Squire E. and Minnie Alice Torrence Pickens. She was a life-long resident of the tri-state area , moving recently to Florida.

Stella was an avid patriot and a strong supporter of military veterans. She was a proud lifelong member of the VFW Woman’s Auxiliary. She volunteered many hours at the VA hospitals to ease injured and sick veterans suffering. Stella enjoyed baking and always had a cabinet full of home-made baked goods.

Stella is preceded in death by her parents, first husband Lawrence Hugh Madden II, daughter Christine Marie Madden, sister Drucella Fern Pickens, and second husband William R. Wass. She is survived by her children Lawrence H. Madden III, Kathleen A. Madden, William E. Madden, Alice M. Madden, four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, close friend Dick Williams and Hershey.

At Stella’s request, there will be no funeral. After internment in Riverview Cemetery, East Liverpool, Ohio, a celebration of life memorial will be held at a future date. Arrangements are being made through Gentry Morrison Southside Chapel, Lakeland, Florida. Condolences may be sent to the family at Gentry-Morrison Funeral Homes.
