LkldNow’s Voter Guide for the 2024 primary went live this week. In it, you’ll find information about all the candidates for local offices that will appear on Lakeland residents’ Aug. 20 primary ballots.

It includes biographical information, candidates’ answers to timely questions, and links to things like news articles and reports showing who has contributed to the campaigns and how the money was spent.

The primary is just 12 days from now. Mail-in ballots are already out and early in-person voting starts on Saturday. Today is the deadline to request a vote-by-mail ballot.

A key takeaway: Even though the Aug. 20 election is called a primary, there are quite a few races on local ballots that are open to all registered voters regardless of party and that will be decided that day.

After the primary is over, we will completely update the Voter Guide with all the candidates running for local office in the Nov. 5 general election.

LkldNow has produced a Voter Guide every year since we were founded in 2015; and each time we work on one, we find ways to improve the next one.

For me, the Voters Guides are an important way LkldNow fulfills our nonprofit organization’s mission of enhancing civic engagement by providing news and information that helps Lakeland residents make informed decisions.
