Florida election news coming

Sometime in the next week, observant readers of LkldNow will notice something new on our website, social media and newsletters: Florida election news provided by the Associated Press.
It might not seem like a big deal, but it’s a departure for us since we have always been laser-focused on Lakeland news written by our staff and free-lancers.
But it made sense to us when we and other small, independent news publishers were given the opportunity to use Associated Press election news through the end of the year, courtesy of funding from the Knight Foundation.
The state election news will live on our politics page and in our upcoming Voter Guide for the Nov. 5 general election. Over the years, our annual Voter Guides have expanded from Lakeland to Polk races and in 2022 to statewide elections. This fall our Voter Guide will direct readers to information about Florida’s constitutional amendments and the U.S. Senate race between Rick Scott and Debbie Mucarsel-Powell. We will be able to add depth by including ongoing AP coverage of Florida election news.
In the last few weeks, we have been busy updating the Voter Guide. It will go live around Oct. 1 so that it will be available by the time vote-by-mail ballots arrive in the mailboxes of voters who requested them.
It’s all part of LkldNow’s nonprofit mission of providing the local news and information people need to engage with their community and make informed decisions.
