Spotlighting Lakeland Lore

A dictionary tells us that “lore” is “a body of traditions and knowledge on a subject or held by a particular group.” That’s a fairly abstract definition that LkldNow intends to put to particular use: the lore of Lakeland.
We’ve already taken a stab at it this week – “Lkld Lore” – with an article about Levy’s Imperial Tire & Auto Service in Dixieland.
It’s not just a tire shop. It’s also an art gallery.
Some people will have known this already. Many, we’re guessing, did not. One definition of journalism is taking knowledge held by a group or an individual and bringing it to a wider audience, which is what we’re trying to do.
Levy’s is like a secret hidden in plain sight. It’s a part of Lakeland’s lore in the sense that Lakeland is the kind of city that has a tire-and-art shop.
We have a preliminary list of other places and things that make up our lore, from animals to tunnels and trees to ghosts, but we’re on the lookout for more.
That’s where you come in. If you know of anything that’s uniquely Lakeland, please tell us so we can take a closer look.
