Saluting our board members

Trinity Laurino

Executive Director

It’s an oft-repeated phrase in the nonprofit world that “nonprofit” is just a tax status – the implication being that running a nonprofit is like running any other business. While that is true in some ways, I also find that being a nonprofit organization makes a profound difference in our newsroom.

Perhaps the greatest difference stems from the fact that LkldNow is not “owned,” rather it is governed by a Board of Directors which has as one of its newest members our founder, Barry Friedman.

LkldNow is the premier project of Linking Community Now, Inc., a 501c3 nonprofit organization in Lakeland. Our board members, who represent a cross-section of our community, volunteer their time, their knowledge and experience to help guide our organization. Each brings a unique perspective and expertise to the group. They ask tough questions and hold our organization and me to account and we are better for it.

Thank you to our current board members – Natalya Clemens, Katherine Fitzwater, Barry Friedman, Erin Hollenkamp, Hollis Hooks, Will Link, Chuck McDanal, LaTrice Moore and Don Selvage – for your service, your commitment to local journalism and community engagement. (Learn more about our board and our staff.) We also thank our previous board members: Doris Moore Bailey, John Fitzwater, Chris McArthur, Sandy Sheets, Mike Trice, Chuck Welch and Amy Wiggins,
