Tropical storm force winds from Hurricane Milton began reaching Lakeland shortly after 2 p.m.

“It is going to be a rainy, windy day and as the storm gets closer to Lakeland, we can expect power outages,” city Communications Director Kevin Cook said in a news update Wednesday. “As the day progresses, conditions will worsen.”

Both the city of Lakeland and Polk County have activated Emergency Operations Centers for the storm.
