Rev. James Junior Sledge, 96

Rev. James Junior Sledge, 96, went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 7, 2023. Rev. Sledge was born in Emory Gap, TN on June 23, 1927, to the late Emmett and Myrtle Sledge.

He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and later the Reserves for 16 years. Rev. Sledge graduated from Stetson University, Southwestern Theological Seminary and the New Orleans Theological Seminary. He served as Pastor in Volusia and Polk Counties from 1960 – 1994. His ministry included serving at Wildwood Baptist, New Home Baptist, Pine Grove Baptist and Lakeland Acres Baptist. In retirement, he was a member of Lakes Church, and enjoyed playing golf.

Rev. Sledge is survived by his wife of 72 years, Betty; daughters, Gloria Jean (Caulion) Allen and Ruth Ann (Daryl) Reimer; 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Anita June Sledge; and 7 siblings.

Visitation will be Mon. Nov. 13th from 10 to 11 a.m. at Lakes Church (Chapel), followed by a service at 11 a.m. Interment will follow the service at Socrum Cemetery.
