Mary Lee Johnson was born December 19, 1932, the only child of the late Anna Johnson Beasley in Lakeland, FL.  She was preceded in death by her only child, the late Terry L. Keys Broadnax.  Mary Lee leaves a Grandson, Paul R. Williams, and two great-grandsons, Darien Spearman and Paul Williams, Jr.; a God-daughter, Denise Ward and God-son, Donavon Quary & special caregivers, Sylvia Bowick, Tommy Foster, Frances Hadley-Ervin, Whitney Hadley, John, and Linda Henry, Carol Harris Nordica Hart, Patsy McRae, Diane Robinson, Andrew Smith, Bridget Wallace, Michelle Jacobs, Cappie Walker and Paul Williams( The Care Team).

She graduated from Washington Park High School here in Lakeland, Class of 1949 and she also attended Bethune Cookman College in Daytona Beach, FL.

Mary Lee in her early years worked at Central Life Insurance Company here in Lakeland, later at Zayre’s Department Store, the Hazel Perkins Gray Child Development Center is formerly known as Christ Community Child Development Center, and Hadley’s Early Education, LLC.  She devoted many years of her life to the early education of young children in the Lakeland area where she was so fondly referred to as “Miss Johnson”.

Mary Lee was a supporter of the Wildcat spirit and a member of the Polk County Alumni Chapter of Bethune Cookman University. Her favorite colors were Burgundy and Gold which she wore proudly.

Mary Lee was a faithful member of Christ Community Christian Center Church where she once taught and assisted in Food Services.  She found her gift and talents in the ministry of information and maintained the Church marquee with upcoming events, words of wisdom, and encouragement for all to see.

Mary Lee loved music and had a very eclectic music collection.  As Terry would say, “Mother loved music from Bach to Gospel”.  Mary Lee was also an avid reader and always surrounded herself with books that inspired, encouraged, and enriched God.
