Daniel Phillips Howes was born May 24, 1938, in Kissimmee, Florida, and died February 11, 2023, in Mulberry, Florida. He was 84.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carson and Lydia Howes, sisters Elizabeth Konsler, Nell Johnson, Helen Swails, and MaryAnn Stokes, brother C. Thomas Howes, and two nieces. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Yolanda Hevia Howes, daughter Julie Ward (Daryl), son Kenny Howes (Debonee), grandchildren David Ward (Ashleigh) and Katie Ward, great granddaughter, Elle; and nine nieces and nephews.

Due to his father’s vocation as a Methodist minister, Dan’s family lived in many Florida towns, including Key West, Pahokee, Clermont, Lakeland, Perry, and Jacksonville. After one year of college at the University of Florida, he transferred to the University of Tampa, earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Dan and Yolanda met during these years, married in 1961, and remained best friends and partners.

Precision, attention to detail, and planning intersected with Dan’s career path as he worked in a variety of sales and administration positions, and in endeavors of home repair, carpentry, camping, and travel. Friends and family often recall his storytelling and witty sense of humor.

A memorial service will be held on March 4, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Lakeland, Florida.
