Byron Alfonso Guzmán, 66, of Florida, peacefully passed away on January 6th, 2025.
He was the loving husband of Melida (Gutiérrez), his partner and best friend. Byron was born in Quito, Ecuador, on June 18, 1958, to the late Gonzalo Guzmán and Teresa (Toscano) Guzmán.
With a heart dedicated to serving others, Byron devoted his life to his work as a Pastor and Hospice Chaplain, providing comfort, guidance, and love to those in need. He pursued his education at Hesston College in Kansas, earning a degree in Pastoral Ministries, and later obtained a bachelor’s degree in business from Gwynedd Mercy University in Pennsylvania.
Byron had an extraordinary gift for bringing joy and laughter to every gathering; his quick wit and infectious smile could light up any room. He treasured every moment with his family, especially with his beloved wife. Byron loved cheering for the Ecuadorian soccer team, preparing delicious meals, playing his guitar, drums and dancing to music wherever it played—including in grocery stores! His playful spirit endeared him to his grandchildren, and he had a unique ability to connect with everyone he encountered.
In addition to his wife of almost 45 years, Melida, Byron leaves behind his four daughters: Joanna Poletti (Vince), Kathy Fleming (Carl), Stacy Regan (Thomas), and Irene Guzmán, along with his cherished grandchildren Enzo (12), Kenley (9), Kaia (7), Capri (6), and Armor (3). He is also survived by his siblings Norma, Patricio, Renée, and Bolívar, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Angela.
Byron will be forever remembered for his kindness, humor, and unwavering love. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Family and friends are invited to Celebrate Byron’s life on Saturday January 18th, 2025, at 3 pm Victory Church, 1401 Griffin Road, Lakeland, FL 33810.
Condolences may be sent to the family at Heath Funeral Chapel.
