
Angelena Pugh, age 88, of Polk City, FL, passed away on October 17, 2023. She was born on February 17, 1935, in Winkler, TX, to the late Worthey and Fannie Mae Wilson.
Angelena, the youngest of three children and only girl was fondly called “Big Babe” by her older brothers, James and Thomas Wilson, who preceded her in death. She had an exuberant personality and a contagious smile that brightened the room. Raised by Baptist and Methodist parents, she learned about the Lord early in life but truly understood the importance of a personal relationship with God after encountering the Holy Ghost in 1963. This experience transformed her life forever when she attended a Holy Ghost-filled service at New Jerusalem COGIC in San Bernardino. later joined COGIC, continuing to grow in the Lord.
Mother Angelena Pugh has resided in 3 states: TX, CA, and FL. She was blessed to love and marry four awesome men, Aaron Haynes Jr, George W. Judge, Isaiah Phipps, and Pastor Herbert C. Pugh. To these unions, 12 children were born. Three preceded Angelena in death: Frederick Judge, Gary C. Judge, and Cynthia Frances Divens.
Angelena dedicated 35 years of her life to the nursing profession, retiring in 2003; but continued to work in the private duty sector until 2006.
Angelena had a deep love for the Lord and was an active member of various churches throughout her life, under awesome leaders who cared for her soul. She worshipped at Mt Zion Baptist Church in Corsicana, TX, Holy Temple and Wayside COGIC in Fresno, CA, Fresno Temple COGIC, Renfro Memorial COGIC, Greater New Jerusalem COGIC, San Bernardino CA, she was an Honorary member of Powerhouse COGIC, Fresno, CA and Believers’ Fellowship in Lakeland, FL. Her faith in God was evident in her character, as she always extended a helping hand and offered words of wisdom and encouragement to those around her.
In her free time, Angelena enjoyed cooking and hosting gatherings. She was a talented cook and taught her daughters how to prepare delicious meals and desserts. A world traveler, who has seen many places, an avid reader of Christian books, and a talented seamstress.
Angelena is survived by her ten children: Aaron L. Haynes (Claudia), Rodney W. Haynes (Anna), Lavada Haynes Logan, Beverly L. Russ, Andrea Grant, Marilyn Fields, Cecil B. Haynes, Rodger Haynes (Thressa), Sheila M. Deck (Dale), and Cynthia F. Haynes. She also leaves behind 50 grandchildren, 82 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by her first cousin, Vashti Wilson, and numerous second cousins, nieces, nephews, blended and adopted children, friends, and acquaintances whom she loved and enjoyed over the years.
Angelena Pugh will be deeply missed by her loving family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her legacy of love, faith, and generosity will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched.
