The NAACP Lakeland Branch is celebrating Black History Month at the Coleman-Bush Building on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 6:30 p.m.

Tre’Esa Battles, the featured speaker, will talk about “The Black Dollar,” which refers to the wealth gap between Black and White Americans and its history.

Lakeland educator Yvonne McShay will discuss her two books, “The Other Side of Florida Avenue,” about the once-thriving Black business community in Lakeland, and “Are You a Prepositional Phrase?”, about her experiences as an English teacher and her travels.

Four-year-old Ashlyn Wilcox of Bartow will recite the poem, “Hey Black Child” from memory, while Star Sanders will recite adult poetry.
