The Lakeland Public Library is bringing dinosaurs to life this summer with a series of themed programs for children, teens, and adults at both its main library and the Larry R. Jackson Branch.

The summer lineup includes movies, crafts, sensory play, book discussions, and educational presentations inspired by prehistoric creatures.

No registration is required for Lakeland Public Library programs.

The library’s dinosaur-themed programming begins Thursday, June 11, with a screening of Jurassic Park (1993) during the Cinema-Saurus Movie Club. The movie starts at 4 p.m. and is open to all ages, although children 13 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

On Tuesday, June 16, reptile expert and conservationist Bruce Shwedick will present Reptile Discovery! at 4:30 p.m. The all-ages program will explore connections between dinosaurs and their modern relatives, including turtles, alligators, crocodiles, lizards, and snakes.

Dino Fridays continue throughout the summer from 10 a.m. to noon for children ages five to 13 and their accompanying adults. Activities include crafts and hands-on projects centered on dinosaurs and prehistoric life.

Take-home craft kits will be available during weeks when the library is closed on Fridays for holidays. The library will be closed June 19 for Juneteenth and July 3 in observance of Independence Day.

Adult readers can participate in the Dinosaurs & Discussions Book Club. The first discussion, focused on Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park, will be held Thursday, June 25, at 5:30 p.m. The program is open to adults 18 and older.

The Cinema-Saurus Movie Club returns Thursday, July 9, at 4 p.m. with a screening of The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997). The film is rated PG and is open to all ages, with adult supervision required for children 13 and younger.

Jurassic Bingo will take place Saturday, July 18, at 2 p.m. The all-ages event will feature multiple rounds of dinosaur-themed bingo and prizes.

The summer book club series concludes Thursday, July 23, at 5:30 p.m. with a discussion of Crichton’s The Lost World. The event is open to adults 18 and older.

Larry R. Jackson Branch Library

Monday Fun Days will be held from 10 a.m. to noon for children ages five to 13 and their accompanying adults. The sessions feature crafts and activities, and participants are encouraged to wear clothing suitable for messy projects.

Dino Playtime will be offered Fridays from 2 to 3 p.m. through July 24 for toddlers and their caregivers. The sensory-based program includes dinosaur-themed activities designed to support social-emotional learning as well as fine and gross motor skill development.
