A small Lakeland bakery with a large social media presence just got national attention. Bake from Scratch magazine’s March/April issue features Born & Bread Bakehouse as one of five notable bakery operations that started at farmer’s markets.

Owner Jennifer Smurr said she thinks Bake from Scratch found her through social media. Her Instagram feed featuring well-lighted photos of her pastries and breads has 18,400 followers.

Once I spoke with Jenn, and her passion for baking was so obvious, I felt sure her story was one that would interest readers,” the article’s writer, Jennifer Kornegay, said.

Born & Bread Bakehouse expanded to a production facility at 1113A S. Florida Ave. and still retails largely through the Lakeland Downtown Farmers Market starting at 8 a.m. on Saturdays.
