Lake Gibson High School’s chorus was out in force again this year with its annual singing telegrams.

Students headed to recipients’ homes, businesses or classrooms for a $17 fee, which included one of three songs and some candy. And for an additional $3, the students threw in a teddy bear, too.

For LGHS chorale director Sarah Lenhart, it was the 17th year she has sponsored the program. This year, 32 students fanned out across Lakeland to serenade unsuspecting recipients.

“They are the best,” she said of her students.

One of this year’ recipients was Carmela Colandrea, who welcomed the students into her home after their performance of Randy Newman’s “You’ve Got A Friend In Me.”

The other two songs students sang this year were “You’re The One That I Want” from Grease and Nat King Cole’s “LOVE.”

Lenhart said the money goes toward the LGHS chrorale program, including choreography lessons for the Winter and Spring concerts, buses for events like singing at Disney and a performance at Tigertown on March 1, and the upkeep of their Victorian costumes used at Christmastime.

Amy Burch said she has seen her son, Wyatt Woodard, evolve in Lenhart’s chorale program “from being a freshman taking a risk and trying out to now being a junior that loves to perform, is currently taking AP music theory, and considering minoring in music in college. Ms. Lenhart does a fantastic job of building friendships within her classes that make high school more enjoyable.”
