Jean was a remarkable and one-of-a-kind mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, daughter, wife, and friend. Her life’s journey was one of great love and family.
The daughter of Landy Eavenson and Minnie Ella (Layne) Eavenson, Jean grew up in Berea,Ohio with five brothers and one sister: Luther (Olive), Henry Clay (Susan), Russell (Erma), Paul (Lois), Harold, and Viola (Ralph).
After graduating from Berea High School in 1948, she married Thomas J. Noss in 1950. (He died in a truck accident in 1992.) Between 1951 and 1957 they had four children: Thomas J. Noss, Jr., Marguerite Ella (Noss) Priefer, Michael J. Noss, and David T. Noss. The family moved from Ohio to Lakeland, Florida in 1972, where Thomas and Jean remained until leaving this world to join the Lord in Heaven.
She leaves behind a myriad of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved and all adored her. In addition to raising her family, Jean retired from the Polk County School system, where she worked in the kitchen with wonderful friends that became like family.
Until the end she loved her family, her house, and her little dog Scooter.
She believed in Jesus as her savior, but never seemed religious. She was famous for her mischievous (and even salty) personality. One of her grandchildren wrote, “Heaven is rejoicing to have this beautiful lady! She will be missed here, though…Grandma Jean was feisty and caring, hilarious and sweet. A tiny little firecracker! Love her… I know I’ll see her on the other side.”
Jean’s children cannot imagine how life will be without their beautiful mother. But they each look forward to one day seeing her again in Heaven.
A service and celebration of life will be announced and held as soon as we are past this pandemic crisis. Jean’s family thank the amazing caregivers at Lakeland Regional and Good Shepherd Hospice House in Lakeland for helping their wonderful mother through her final journey.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Good Shepherd Hospice House at https://www.chaptershealth.org/hospice-aide-extraordinaire/. They provided an extremely valuable service ministering to both Jean and her family’s needs.
