Inklings Book Shoppe, formerly located downtown, opens this morning in its new location in Dixieland, at 737 S. Missouri Ave., across the street from Hillcrest Coffee.

The book store’s move is part of a burst of activity in the neighborhood.

On Instagram, the shop’s account said, “We’re so excited for you to see our new home!”

It’s just under a mile south of its previous incarnation, downtown.

Earlier, Inklings owner Finley Walker said he envisions his book store’s new Dixieland location as a place to bring people together.

“You could argue that books are civilization, right?” he said. “The ability to preserve ideas, thoughts and knowledge, the written word and storytelling in a format that can be passed along. That is civilization. That is culture.”

The book store will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today. Regular hours will be Tuesday-Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
