For more than five decades, CPS Investment Advisors has gone beyond financial planning to invest in something that numbers can’t quantify: the future of Polk County’s students and educators.
From delivering boxes of school supplies to local Polk County Public Schools to providing hygiene items and uniforms for students, CPS’s support of local schools is a team effort. The firm’s employees routinely roll up their sleeves through CPS Cares, a nonprofit foundation, to pack care kits, gather school supplies and connect with students and staff on a personal level.

“Our team believes that when students have what they need to feel safe, clean, and supported, they can focus on learning. That creates a ripple effect that benefits the entire community,” says Mike Riskin, president, treasurer and partner at CPS. “Championing education is one of the most meaningful investments we can make.”
That philosophy extends to high school seniors preparing for their next educational journey —college. CPS volunteers help supply dorm-room and household basics, like laundry baskets, bedding and kitchenware, for college-bound students, so they can concentrate on their academics and not necessities. It’s a small gesture that removes a large burden to help these graduates start their next chapter with confidence.
The firm’s commitment doesn’t stop with students. As a sponsor of the Polk County School Board’s Focus on Excellence campaign, CPS helps spotlight and reward the hard work of teachers and staff across the district. That includes offering a sweet treat on administrative days thanks to the CPS Frozen Treats truck, which makes surprise rounds delivering free ice cream to school campuses.
“It’s a small way of saying thank you,” Riskin adds. “We want educators and school staff to know the community sees them, appreciates them and is behind them.”
Based in Lakeland, CPS Investment Advisors has a strong history of helping clients plan for the future and achieve financial independence through financial planning, investments and tax services. But its legacy in Polk County includes something that can’t be measured in portfolios: decades of giving back, showing up and helping shape a stronger and more equitable future through education.
At a time when many schools face limited resources and growing challenges, CPS’s consistent, hands-on support offers a reminder of what’s possible when local businesses step up. Whether handing out ice cream or uniforms, the message is the same: Every student and educator deserves the tools and encouragement to succeed.
As another school year approaches, CPS remains committed to helping Polk County students and staff thrive —one backpack, one smile, one scoop of ice cream at a time.
