Looking for a new book? Do you just like to see and touch printed books in our digital age?
You’re in luck. The 4th annual Lakeland Book Crawl will be held from Thursday, April 24 to Saturday, April 26 this year.
What is it: The event, hosted by Lakeland Booksellers, is a collaborative event showcasing seven independent bookstores in Lakeland. The stores are Bookends Used Books, The Unbound Bookery, Inklings Book Shoppe, Pressed Books & Coffee, Crash Bookshop, BookaReaderville, and Little Bus Books.
All of the stores will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the crawl.
The event culminates on April 26, National Independent Bookstore Day, with a social for book crawl attendees from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Crash Bookshop, 3125 U.S. Highway 98 South, Lakeland.
“We as booksellers get to connect with the reading community in Lakeland,” said Kaylin Fowler, a former Lakeland Christian School English teacher who took over ownership of Pressed Books and Coffee in October, speaking of the social.
“That’s really hard to do during the store hours on those days because the stores tend to be really busy,” Fowler said. “The social is really an opportunity for us to connect with people, talk to people. We’re going to be highlighting different book clubs that happen in Lakeland. We’re going to be highlighting different local authors.”
Organizers decided to shorten the week to three days this year with the hope it would make it easier for customers to participate.
“We wanted to do something different and change it up but also to be more available to everyone,” Fowler said. “We feel it will produce a better turnout and experience.”
The Discounts: During the book crawl, each store is offering different incentives.

- Pressed Books & Coffee — Free coffee with purchase of a new book
- Crash Bookshop — 10% off new books
- Bookareaderville — Buy two books get one free
- Little Bus Books — 50% of proceeds go to Hope House Literacy Landing
Other Deals: Lakeland Booksellers have expanded their partnerships with other small businesses in the community. A book crawl receipt gives customers access to these deals, which expire May 3, according to the event’s website.
